The Story Emporium Lineup has begun…

I am so proud to say, the children’s authors and illustrators that came out to be interviewed at The Story Emporium was amazing. I want to thank all of you for your interest and I look forward to interviewing each and every one of you regarding your writing process. I am especially curious to learn about how you develop your characters. The first author interview will take place on Wednesday, November 2nd with Erin Whalen. (The Story Emporium’s Resident Author and Illustrator.) Following that our line up is as follows:

November 9th – Greg Fishbone

November 16th – Jane Sutton

November 23rd – Thanksgiving Vacation – no interviews that week

November 30th – Carol Ekster

Lily & Co. Publishing is proud to announce the opening of a working studio where children’s author and illustrator Erin T.Whalen will work on her latest book and illustrations. The hours of operation and description of studio can be viewed here

Every Wednesday The Story Emporium will interview a published author and/or illustrator which will be filmed and put on local television (times to be announced) as well as You Tube (station to be announced) and the website www.TheStoryEmporium.org (that has yet to launch).

The studio is still under construction but we have an expected opening date of September 28th!

Schools, parents, children and passer bys are all welcome to come in and watch the interviews, purchase children’s illustration and signed children’s books or just watch a book being illustrated in real time!

Borders Books Bankruptcy

It’s been announced… Borders Books is going bankrupt. This is not a bad thing though because they are staying open while restructuring their business model. They have seen the changing face of publishing and book selling and are changing their business to suit it. So congratulations Borders for keeping up with the times!

Publishing off the beaten path

I have been following along with all the publishing hoo-ha that’s been happening and I have something in mind that is all my own. It is going to be a new form of publishing. Perhaps it will be successful and expand or it could very well go the other way and fail. I just ask all of you to keep an open mind on publishing as it is changing ever so rapidly. I will certainly put out more news as I develop it.

ebooks are officially here to stay

Ok, big news here. My Mom came to visit me yesterday and gave me some news that nearly knocked my slippers off! She bought an e-reader. The woman who doesn’t venture close to technology did the unthinkable. She is reading a tablet! This is a sure sign to me that e-books are officially here to stay so publishers, lets get comfortable with them and take advantage of their inexpensive publishing venues. We, as publishers, should look at these little digital books as gifts because the cost to us is so low to produce. Sure we make less but the books are virtual so there is no product to make too much of! How great is that?

I still haven’t purchased one myself but I won’t lie, I am hoping Santa brings me a nook or sony ebook reader this year.

Excellent Marketing Book - A MUST have!

I had a little bit of time to myself yesterday and decided to visit my local bookstore. While browsing I found this title and took a comfy seat to peek through it. I was absolutely delighted to find a plethora of resources for marketing with little to no money and lots of creativity. This book is a MUST have for all small publishers and every author out there!

horns and self-published my book after extensive research. It is a thing of the times. I was careful to have it professionally edited for mechanics (not
content). So, Roscoe Is a RAKster is now in print. It’s very exciting as you know, having experienced it several times yourself. It is about random acts of
kindness, aimed at K and first graders.

Here is the new illustrations for the upcoming Charlie’s Head Middle-Grade Novel that is set to be released in 2011! I had a much different vision than the picture-book series and look forward to bringing all my readers on a wild ride next spring! Publication date is set for March 2011.
